Letter from Marilyn B. Meyers, Founder of Preservation America Trust and Executive Director of Glen Mary

My fellow Americans,

As citizens of this great country, we have inherited the precious freedoms that allow us to reach for the moon and become who we want to be. All of us are shaped by our cultural context, where we grew up and the many and various influences of youth.

Like the ancient Greek architecture that inspired the design of Glen Mary,  the goddesses of the arts at Mount Parnassus anointed Glen Mary as a home for artistic endeavors. It is a place for self-discovery, for finding creative fulfillment and a place where the arts teach about history and educate us in other ways.

Art transfigures reality. Creativity is meant to serve and evoke beauty. Historic  Glen Mary is a place of beauty that stands out as “a still unravished bride of quietness”; the perfect place to think and create. Its unexpected solitary classical beauty in a remote bucolic landscape is an uplifting heart-stopping source of pleasure where the direction, rhythm and energy of our lives become different.

Yet, there is little philanthropy for a rural place that focusses on the arts, education and historic preservation in an “underserved area” in one of the poorest counties in Georgia. Glen Mary is a community resource and it is struggling to survive. Supporting the arts, protecting the meaningful and irreplaceable is in our own interest, emotionally and economically.

Why not consider making a priority gift in your name to Preservation America Foundation, “The Arts at Glen Mary” ? Come visit us and please give us your support!

Thank you
